2019-2020:  This course will take a journey through chemistry in the Fall and then continue with physics in the Spring.  It is set up to help teach students how to learn and how to study.  The lab is designed to foster teamwork and class unity, as well as being hands-on.

TIME COMMITMENT: It can vary greatly for each individual student.  This is one of the many things addressed at our

A higher level of accountability is incorporated into the course.  Our labs are 2-hours, so the best way to get the most out of our time is for every student to come excited, prepared, and with a team-minded attitude.  To do this and in order to stay enrolled in the class, ALL students are required to fulfill their responsibilities of work assigned, some of which may include reading assignments, vocabulary, self-grading, review questions, and projects.  This will help your student be prepared for each lab and allow all involved to get the most out of our time together.

It begins at the required Student & Parent Orientation.

For HIS campus, class begins a week early due to having Labor Day off.

Our orientation is one week prior to classes starting.

This will be confirmed and a reminder sent.

Our chemistry text is described by the author in the following manner.  “Chemistry is an amazing branch of science that affects us every day yet few people realize it, or even give it much thought.  Without chemistry, there would be nothing made of plastic, there would be no rubber tires, no tin cans, no televisions, no microwave ovens, or something as simple as wax paper.”

Moving on to physics, each concept is clearly explained with text that speaks in layman’s' terms, and illustrates each concept with examples from history and real life. Students will learn about the laws, principles and effects of physics throughout our universe.  This is a great foundation to prepare your student.

This class is offered to 8th to 9th grade students.  The text is engaging and the labs re-enforce what is presented.  Labs are fun and all about team activities.  Their success is based on participation, so students must come prepared.

Grading will focus on following directions and completion of assignments in order to help teach a valuable life skill that will also assist students in their future academics.  Notebook organization will be included in this evaluation.

Students are given an outline of coursework required to complete as school work, which includes the student correcting and grading work that is turned in for review.  Participation in an approved science fair is optional for additional credit.

Schoology is the platform used for assignments and communication between the teacher and student, so access to a computer and printer are essential to this class.

Looking forward to our exciting adventure as we do this together!
